Hey. I was thinking of getting some coloured drum lugs and hoops but they’re kinda expensive so I was wondering if I could use something to paint the chrome parts?
It is nearly impossible to paint true chrome and achieve a durable finish.
Your best bet will be an etching primer and an alkyd based metal paint – but don’t be surprised if it chips easily.
i need help. i want to paint my drum hardware red, but i dont know exactly how to. i dont have a lot of money so i need some thing cheap but durable. i dont know what would happen if i just spray paint it with a regular spray can. please some one help me.

If you can strip down your drum fitting it will make it easier as you won’t need to mask up but you will need to use an acid etching spray primer, de grease fittings and prime paint with acid etch, then topcoat with colour of choice re attach fittings. good luck
I know 22″ or other sizes are general named sizes, but exactly what is the diameter of a perfectly round bass drum from tip of bearing edges to the opposite tip? What about from outside to outside surface? I would appreciate well sourced and expanded answers, thank you…
I am not buying a hoop actually. I am experimenting with making my own drum. I need to know the specific diameter in order to see if the experimental drum is going to be the same exact size…
Most bass drums are made with a 22″ diameter. Other favorites are 24″ and 20″. Other sizes usually vary in even sizes as that. Widths vary as well, but most are 14″, 16″ or 18″. This will vary as well, but also in even numbers.
Looking back on your question…I have never measured the “exact” size from bearing to bearing other than the basic measurement. If you have a 22″ bass drum that needs a new counter hoop, then you need to buy a 22″ counter hoop. Yes, the hoop will be slightly bigger than that, but that’s the way it’s suppose to be. I’m sure that most drum dealers will know what you need for that replacement if that’s what you are wondering about?
I was just wondering because most drum kits have silver hoops (rims) and I don’t really come across ones with black hoops very often. Are the black ones more rare or stronger?

I recently bought sound percussion bass drum mutes but im not so sure on how to put the bass drum mute on. It didn’t come with directions and I can’t figure it out. All that I have left are 2 straps. 6 hooks and 2 little squarish like pad things. Please help me and tell me how to put them on.

step 1
run 1 elastic band through each squarish thing
step 2 knot one hook to eah end of the straps
step 3 hook the hooks onto your bass drum lugs on the side
step 4 pull the squarish pad thing over the bass drum hoop
5 place the big pad underneath the two little ones
